Our Groups
At Hailes Barn, we understand that each stage of childhood brings its own unique needs and opportunities for growth. That’s why we’ve created small, nurturing groups where children receive the attention and support they need to thrive. With low ratios and experienced practitioners, we build strong bonds with each child, tailoring our care to their individual routines and interests.
Chicks
9 months - 18 months
Just nine children per day with a 1:3 ratio. This small, close-knit environment helps us form strong bonds and adapt our routines to reflect those at home, providing a familiar, caring space for each child.
Hens
18 months – 3 years
Twelve children per day with a mixed ratio group 1:3 until they are 2 years old, and 1:4 from 2 to 3 years. This is lower than the new government guidance of 1:5, ensuring children receive more individualised attention and support throughout their early development.
Roosters
3 years – 5 years
Sixteen children per day with a 1:8 ratio. Our preschool group focuses on school readiness and independence while keeping play at the heart of everything we do. We balance planned activities with child-led exploration to inspire curiosity and growth.
Food at Hailes Barn

Supper: 4:00pm
We follow the latest Department for Education (DfE) guidelines on early years nutrition, ensuring that our menus support your child’s growth and wellbeing.
