A Small Change to Help Big Little Steps

We are always grateful for the feedback we receive from our families, and recently some thoughtful suggestions sparked a positive change here at the nursery.

A few parents mentioned that they were concerned about children staying in the baby room longer than necessary, even when they were developmentally ready to move up. That feedback got us thinking and we’ve made a small but important tweak to our age groupings to give us more flexibility to support your children as they grow.

Our new groupings are:

  • Chicks: 9 months – 18 months

  • Hens: 18 months – 3 years

  • Roosters: 3 years – 5 years

This change allows our team to move children into the room that best suits their stage of development, rather than sticking too rigidly to age cut-offs. So if your little one is ready to explore new challenges, they can do just that!

Important to note:
Even if a child moves up into the Hens room before they turn 2, they will still remain on the 1:3 adult-to-child ratiorequired for under-twos. The Hens room will be a mixed-age group in that sense, and we’ll continue to carefully plan activities and support that meet each child’s individual needs.

We’ll be updating our website and room info shortly to reflect these changes, and as always, if you have any questions just ask, we’re here to help!
